Dressings consist of soft, thick and elastic polyurethane foam, sandwiched between an outermost layer of breathable polyurethane film and wound-contacting polyethylene net containing silver metal ions (Ag+). The edges of the outermost and the innermost polyurethane film are sealed together with a unique technique to prevent leakage when foam is saturated with exudates and upon compression. These three layers are laminated together to produce a soft, thick and elastic wound dressing. The outside film acts as a bacterial barrier, and the silver inhibits bacterial growth in the dressing, which helps to prevent colonization. Silver is added to the dressing to prevent bacterial growth within the dressing.
