Littauer suture scissors are surgical scissors commonly used in procedures involving sutures (stitches). They are typically 4-1/2 inches in length and made from stainless steel with a finger ring handle for a comfortable grip. These scissors are specifically designed with a small, pointed tip to easily cut through delicate suture materials without damaging surrounding tissues. They are commonly used in ophthalmic, dental, and plastic surgery procedures, as well as in general surgery. Littauer suture scissors are named after the inventor William D. Littauer, an American surgeon who first patented the design in 1891.
