At 9,002 monstrous feet, the tallest peak in the Trinity Alps of northwestern California doesn't come close to comparing to the High Sierras; but when peaceful solitude is of utmost importance, such comparisons are meaningless. Like the authors excitedly point out in their introduction, "Bigger is not necessarily better." With scores of glacier-gouged alpine lakes, enchanting conifer forests, rushing coastal streams, picturesque waterfalls and gentle, rolling meadows, the Trinity Alps are quite simply a gorgeous destination for any level wilderness enthusiast. And like other Wilderness Press hiking guides, this one comes not only with trail descriptions, but also with chapters on the area's natural history, human history, climate, and wildlife, as well as a foldout topographic map; plenty of professional, experienced advice.
